Reports and Recommendations of the City Manager
1.

Council action is requested to issue a purchase order to Bobcat in the amount of $56,071.20 for the purchase of a Bobcat Excavator for the Water Pollution Control Department.  Expenditures will not exceed budgeted amounts.



2.

Council action is requested to issue a purchase order to Altec Industries, in the amount of $145,083 for a hydraulic aerial device for the Power and Light Department.



3.

Council action is requested to issue a purchase order to Altec Industries, in the amount of $258,839 for a two-man hydraulic aerial device for the Power and Light Department.



4.

Council action is requested to issue a purchase order to Altec Industries, in the amount of $257,463 for a digger derrick truck for the Power and Light Department.

17-732 - A resolution reappointing Councilmember Tom Van Camp, Councilmember Chris Whiting and Mayor Eileen Weir to the Employee Advisory Committee for the City of Independence, Missouri.



17-733 - A resolution reappointing Councilmember Tom Van Camp, Councilmember Scott Roberson and Mayor Eileen Weir to the Transportation Policy Committee.

17-046 - 1R. An ordinance amending the Zoning District Map as to a tract of ground located at 19411 E. Valley View Pkwy. From District O-1 (Office-Residential) to District C-2 (General Commercial) in Independence, Jackson County, Missouri.



17-047 - 1R. An ordinance authorizing execution of a contract with Danford Engineering, LLC., in an amount not to exceed $160,000.00, for engineering services for the substation “E” to substation “F” 69 kV Transmission Line Rebuild project; and authorizing future minor change orders for an amount not to exceed $16,000.00 and/or time extensions.

17-049 - 1R. An ordinance imposing a Transportation Sales Tax at the rate of one-half of one percent of the receipts from the sale at retail of all tangible personal property or taxable services at retail within the City of Independence, Missouri, to be effective January 1, 2020, which shall remain in effect at said rate thereafter until repealed, subject to the approval of such ordinance by the voters of the City, all as provided by the Transportation Sales Tax act of the State of Missouri; and further calling for the proposition adopting said Transportation Sales Tax to be placed on the ballot at the regularly scheduled election to be held August 8, 2017, and proposing the form of the ballots to be employed at said election and directing the City Clerk to do all things called for by law in connection with the holding of said election. 



17-050 -1R. An ordinance imposing a use tax  at the rate of two and one quarter percent (2.25%) for the privilege of storing, using, or consuming within the city any article of tangible personal property pursuant to the authority granted by the and subject to the provision of Sections 144.600 through 144.761 RSMo; providing for the use tax to be repealed, reduced or raised in the same amount as any city sales tax is repealed, reduced, or raised; and providing for submission of the proposal to the qualified voters of the city for their approval at the special election called and to be held in the city on August 8, 2017, and proposing the form of the ballots to be employed at said election and directing the City Clerk to do all things called for by law in connection with the holding of said election.

INFORMATION ONLY:
1.

Per Section 8.2 of the City Charter, the City Manager has prepared and submitted the proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2017-2018 to the City Council.  The City Manager will be presenting the budget during the City Council Study Session scheduled on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in Council Chambers. 



2.

The City Clerk has received notification that the City Manager has accepted a grant from the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission in the amount of $3,000, for the Police Department. These funds will be used to reimburse police officers for overtime worked while conducting aggressive driving enforcement activities during the upcoming holidays.



3.

The City Clerk's Office is in receipt of the Noland Road Community ImprovementDistrict's proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2017-18. 



4.

The City Clerk's office is in receipt of the Trinity Woods Community Improvement District Proposed Budget for Fiscal Year 2017-18.
