|BILL NO. 17-042||Ord.No: 18740|
17-042 - 2R. An ordinance authorizing a contract with Utility Service Company, Inc. to paint the interior and exterior of 35th Street Reservoir and perform associated work for the full sum of $587,300.00; authorizing future minor change orders in a total amount not to exceed $58,730.00; and/or time extensions.
It is The Water Department's recommendation that the bid submitted by Utility Service Company, Inc. to paint the interior and exterior of the 35th Street Reservoir and perform associated work be accepted in the amount of $587,300.00.
This project will completely remove the existing interior and exterior coatings, which have reached the end of their effective life spans. The interior and exterior coatings shall be replaced with new systems of the latest protective coating technology available. This project will also include several small structural repairs and modifications to the reservoir structure; required to maintain and extend the reservoir’s serviceability. Upon completion, the project will lengthen the 35th Street Reservoir’s service life approximately 25 years.
The 35th Street Reservoir provides the City of Independence 2 million gallons of potable water storage. The reservoir aides the Water Department’s ability to meet the water usage demands of Independence citizens; by supplementing Courtney Bend Water Plant output during peak demand periods and by providing auxiliary capacity in the event of emergency water needs.
The 35th Street Reservoir, constructed in 1957, was last painted in 2000. This project will completely remove the existing interior and exterior coatings, which have reached the end of their effective life spans.
