The Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA), in partnership with the Kansas City Veterans Administration and the Veterans Community Project, will honor veterans by providing free fares for all area veterans. It has been requested that the regional RideKC transit partners join in offering free ride for veterans.
The initiative is being sponsored by the Greater Kansas City Labor Unions/AFL-CIO which will cover most of the hard costs of administration and education. The project partnership honors the commitment of service to of all veterans and has the potential to increase ridership, without exceeding capacity.
The RideKC transit partners would start offer free rides to any veteran immediately but officially start on April 3rd. In the near future, veterans would be provided transit swipe cards to use on the regional transit system. It is anticipated those cards would be available in approximately 6 weeks.
