Price agreements establish set prices that remain in effect for a designated period of time. This allows City departments to use the agreements in the performance of their operations without requiring a separate bid process each time the service or commodity is required.
The Purchasing Division issued an Invitation to Bid (ITB) for rotary kiln lime on February 6, 2017. Rotary kiln lime is used to soften water. Hard water requires more soap and synthetic detergents for home laundry and washing, and it contributes to scaling in pipes, appliances, and industrial equipment.
Four (4) bids were received: Lhoist North America; U.S. Lime Company; Carmeuse Lime & Stone; and Mississippi Lime Company. Mississippi Lime submitted the lowest bid and met the minimum requirements of the ITB. Mississippi Lime is the current contractor. The Water Department has been satisfied with their service and quality of product.
The Invitation to Bid was posted as follows.
1. Posted on the City’s website
2. Direct notification by Public Purchase, the City’s Internet-based,
e-procurement system to 17 potential bidders; 7 accessed the ITB
3. Broadcast on the Purchasing Division’s Twitter website.
