The Police Department needs to purchase 15 new Motorola radios for recently purchased new police vehicles. All of the current Motorola radios (car and personal radios) will no longer be supported by the manufacturer after June 2019, so the Department is implementing a phase-in program to avoid replacing all the radios at the same time. The current vehicle radios no longer have remote kits available for purchase that would allow them to be installed in the new vehicles.
The net cost per each APX6500 radio is $3,440.00 for a total cost of $51,600.00. This purchase will be made using a cooperative agreement through the Kansas City Regional Purchasing Cooperation (KCRPC), a division of MARC.
Per section 8.06.004, Paragraph 5 of the City Code states competitive bidding is not required when purchases are made through a cooperative contract established by a government purchasing entity or cooperative. The cooperative bids used will have been established pursuant to RSMo. 70.220 or generally accepted governmental purchasing practices through the competitive bidding process. Purchases by this method shall be exempt from Section 8.06.003 of the City Code and shall not require formal City Council approval, but will be reported in accordance with Section 8.06.003.
Approval of this item authorizes the Purchasing Manager to issue change orders up to a total of ten (10) percent of the original authorized amount, so long as appropriations are available.
