Executive Summary:

Approval is requested for a construction contract for the Sidewalks to Schools Project (No. 70110808). The project will make improvements at two locations near schools. New sidewalks will be built along 25th Terrace between Hardy and Northern adjacent to Korte School.  Sidewalks will be built where they are missing along 32nd Street between Sterling and Shady Bend Drive near Three Trails School. The contract would be with Terry Snelling Construction at a cost of $466,755.00. This is the final Sidewalks to Schools project for the Street Sales Tax Program that sunsets in December 2019.
Background:

This action would approve a construction contract with Terry Snelling Construction for the Sidewalks to Schools Project (No. 70110808) at a cost of $466,755.00.  This is the final Sidewalks to Schools project funded by the Street Sales Tax Program that sunsets in December 2019 to improve sidewalks specifically near schools.  This project makes sidewalk improvements near Korte School and Three Trails School.  The Korte School improvements are along 25th Terrace from Hardy to Northern.  The Three Trails School improvements are along 32nd Street from Shady Bend Drive to Sterling.  The project was bid in accordance with the City Procurement Policy and three construction bids for the project were received: 

 

Terry Snelling Construction           $466,755.00

Mega Industries                             $470,720.00

Gunter Construction                      $550,351.50

 

Terry Snelling Construction meets the requirements for Construction Contractor Requirements set forth in the City's Procurement Policy and has successfully completed other contracts for the City.  Their bid is being recommended for approval. The engineer's estimate for the construction is $439,706.00. The action would approve minor change order approval by the City Manager not to exceed $46,675.50 and/or time extensions. The contract provides for construction completion within 120 calendar days, excluding December 16 through March 15. The project would be funded by the Street Sales Tax fund.



Fiscal Impact:

The Council action will obligate $513,430.50 in Street Sales Tax funds that were previously appropriated for this contract on the Sidewalks to Schools Project (No. 70110808).
