Council action is requested to authorize the City Manager to approve Change Order #1 for the Noland Road Culvert Improvements Project (No. 70131801) with Rodriguez Mechanical for an amount not to exceed $85,563.00.
Approval of the request is recommended.
Approval is requested for Change Order #1 for the Noland Road Culvert Improvements Project (No. 70131801). During removal and replacement of the planned length of 31 linear feet of 8-foot by 6-foot box culvert, additional failure of the concrete box culvert occurred. The consulting engineer performed a structural evaluation of the failure zone and concluded that an additional 16 linear feet of 8-foot by 6-foot box culvert was necessary to complete the repair.
The original contract scope required removal and replacement of 31 linear feet of 8-foot by 6-foot concrete box culvert. While preparing to remove and replace the existing box culvert, another section of the box culvert failed. The consulting engineer of record performed an evaluation, and concluded that an additional 16 linear feet replacement was necessary to remove all deteriorated concrete and keeps the box culvert functioning.
The contractor submitted a change order for review. Activities for the change order include: demolition and shoring of the existing box, temporary flow bypass, and 16 feet of 8-foot by 6-foot box culvert extension. The total cost of the change order is $85,563.00.
Staff has reviewed the proposed change order and recommends approval of this change order.
The construction contract would obligate $85,563.00 of Storm Water Sales Tax (SWST) funds for the Noland Road Culvert Improvements Project (No. 70131801).
