Highway Safety- E Ticketing Application

The Police Department recommends approval. 

The Police Department has received grant funding through the Missouri Department of Transportation in the past for traffic related initiatives including DWI
Enforcement (Wolf Packs), Hazardous Moving Violation and Occupant Protection programs.


In addition to that funding, the Police Department is applying for funding to implement E-Ticketing within the Traffic Unit. The project is designed to increase the efficiency of the Independence Police Department by utilizing e-ticketing. With e-ticketing; officers are able to swipe/scan State Driver’s Licenses and electronically complete their citations. This drastically cuts down on the time spent issuing a citation or filling in repetitive information. Once the citations are completed, the information is directly uploaded to InCode. This direct upload will eliminate the need for duplicate entry by the officer and court clerk, along with the clerk reading all the handwritten citations.

Fiscal Impact:

The Police Department is applying for $87,874.00 in Highway Safety grant funds to implement this project.
