18-119 - 1R. An ordinance adding Article 20, “Fireworks,” to Chapter 5 of the Independence City Code and making other necessary revisions.
Staff recommends approval.
On January 20, 2009, the City Council approved Ordinance No. 17236 which amended Chapter 9 of the City Code (International Fire Code) to permit the sale and use of fireworks. This ordinance would move the firework regulations (as currently adopted) into Chapter 5 of the City Code – Business and Occupation Licenses.
Since the adoption of the original ordinance, the sale of consumer grade fireworks has been regulated by requiring qualified sellers to obtain a business license from the City. During the review and discussion on the 2018 Edition of the International Fire Code, it was recommended to move the currently adopted regulations to Chapter 5, Business and Occupation Licenses. There are no changes being made to the regulations.
