The site, located at the northeast corner of 23rd Street and Liberty Street, consists of approximately 0.24 acres and sits to the east of the new Fire Station 4. The existing 1 story building was constructed in the 1950s as the Fire Station 4.
The building, since its construction, has been used by the City of Independence as a fire station until 2008 when the new Fire Station 4 was opened. Since that time, the City has maintained the building.
In June 2018, the City issued the Reuse of City Property – Former Fire Station Building Request for Proposals. A single response was received from Shepherd Enterprises, a local general contractor, with the intent to reuse the property for the growing business. The developer's proposed plan is to remodel the interior of the building to allow a smooth flow of operation between reception area to office space to design and material selection area. They also plan to upgrade the exterior of the building through landscaping, paint, roof, foundation repairs.
