Settling Basin No.1 is one of six such basins at the Courtney Bend Water Plant, and is critical for plant operation during the summer months when water demands are highest. This basin is currently not operable due to a failure in the basin floor, causing a leak. The leak was discovered when Water Department personnel attempted to return Settling Basin No. 1 to service after completion of a planned painting project on June 29, 2018. The basin was drained immediately, and Water Department staff consulted multiple subject experts and experienced contractors to develop a repair plan that could be executed quickly.
The proposal provided by Matrix Service, an experienced steel tank constructor, was determined by Water Department staff to be the best option of plans submitted. Matrix Service has many years of steel tank construction and repair experience, and has in house professional engineering staff, which make them qualified to provide this service.
