Agenda Title:

18-007 - 2R. An ordinance estimating revenue and increasing appropriations in the amount of $1,000.00 in the Health Department Grants Fund for reimbursement of public health activities related to tobacco education.

Staff recommends approval.
Executive Summary:

The City Clerk has received notification that the City Manager has accepted a grant on behalf of the Health Department for the Healthiest Cities and Counties grant. The City Manager is allowed to accept individual grants under $50,000.00 as authorized by Ordinance number 17533. The Health Director is requesting that the total amount of reimbursement for this grant, $1,000 be appropriated in the Grant Fund portion of the Health Department Operating Budget.

Healthiest Cities & Counties Challenge – The American Public Health Association, through a contract with the Health Department, provides funds to participate in the Healthies Cities & Counties Challenge to develop a cross-sector team to work with landlords to offer smoke-free multi-unit housing to reduce exposure to second-hand smoke. As a Finalist team member, the Aetna Foundation offered $1,000 for City staff to attend the HCCC Institute in Atlanta.

Fiscal Impact:

FY 17/18 Operating Budget will need to be increased in revenue and expenditures in the amount of $1,000 in the following Grant Funds:
